[Review] Holika Holika Golden Monkey Glamour Lip 3 Step Kit

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Holika Holika has come out with a predecessor for its very famous Pig Nose Clear Blackhead 3 Step Kit. It's called the Golden Monkey Glamour Lip 3 Step Kit and instead of removing your nasty little blackheads, this kit is designed to exfoliate, plump and moisturize your lips! Of course I had to try this since my lips are notoriously dry. (I'll be releasing the video review of this product soon and I'll put it in this post!)

By the way, if you're wondering why Holika Holika themed this kit after monkeys, I believe the Golden Monkey is known for its pink and noticeable lips. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's move on!

The packaging is super cute! Look at this thing, I don't even want to open it! haha. But I must for the sake of the review.

Here's a close up of the packaging. You can see the ingredients, directions, and description.

Here's an initial 'before' of my lips. As you can see, they're fairly dry and a little chapped.

So step one of the packet is to remove all the dead skin and clean your lips with this pad. As you can see, there's no texture to it, so it's not really good for exfoliating. It doesn't really have a smell and FYI, just in case you get in your mouth, it doesn't taste terrible. haha.

This is what my lips looked like after step one. As you can see, they're a little bit smoother.

Step 2 of the packet is to take this lip gel patch and place is on your clean lips for 15 minutes. It's nice because it stays in place and doesn't slide all over the place. You can wear this while you do other things!

I look crazy with this thing on!

So I forgot to take a picture after step 2 but you can see the results immediately after step 2 in the video (once it's posted!). Step 3 is a honey-based balm that you put on your lips. As you can see in the picture below, the balm is nice and glossy. Plus, it's not sticky at all and it's very comfortable to wear! I loved this last part because it made my lips feel really nice and it's really shiny! Also, there's enough in the packet to save a use a couple more times!

So what do you guys think?! Can you see a difference? Do my lips look better? Hope you guys enjoyed this review!

Happy Korean New Years! :) Tteokguk Recipe (Beef and Rice Cake Soup)

Thursday, February 19, 2015

In honor of the Lunar New Year (which is today, if you weren't aware!), my mom and I made Tteokguk. Tteokguk is a Korean beef and rice cake soup that is traditionally eaten on the Korean New Year. It's supposed to start off your year right and make sure your new year is prosperous, happy and healthy :)

I've included the ingredients for the recipe below. Notice, I didn't put specific measurements or amounts because this is definitely the type of soup where you add however much of each ingredient you want! :)

Ingredients:
  • Minced Garlic
  • Beef (chopped into small pieces)
  • Beef Broth (or beef broth cubes)
  • Water (obviously) haha
  • Rice Cakes
  • Chopped Green Onions
  • Seaweed
It's super easy so if you make a different version or make this one, let me know! Hope you're all happy and healthy as always and that you have a wonderful new year!

Shopping in Seoul: A Guide for Shopping for Prescription Eye Glasses

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

When I found out that you could buy super cheap prescription glasses in Seoul, I was like “YES!”. If you’re not aware of it already, I have terrible eyesight. Like, really bad eyesight. I’m practically blind. So I rely heavily on my contacts and glasses. The idea that I could broaden my eye glass collection for cheap was so exciting!
The table I picked my glasses from!
It might seem a little overwhelming at first when you’re looking to buy prescription glasses. Most places have a florescent eyeglass sign above the door. The trick is to find the stores that offer cheap prices because there are stores that sell high-end, expensive glasses. And buy expensive, I mean a couple hundred bucks for the frames alone! In order to find the right store, feel free to walk in, browse and ask how much frames are to get an idea of their prices. Some cheaper glasses stores are more obvious that they have cheap glass (some have a table full of glasses with a sign that says 20,000 won, 30,000 won, etc)

This is the store where I bought mine!
The store I bought my prescription glasses at was in Nongdaemun market. Don’t ask me where because I can’t remember where it was, I just know I got them in this area. I paid 65,000 won for two pairs of prescription glasses. That’s about $65! Talk about insane right?! In the United States, I’ve paid anywhere from $250 to $450 for glasses.

The cat-shaped glasses I bought!
It’s really best if you have your prescription on you, so you can make sure you’re getting the right lenses. I remembered what mine is, so I was able to make sure I was getting the right prescription. Fear not though, they usually all have a free check-up to see what your prescription is. I just figure it’s better to know before you go to be certain.

The large framed glasses I bought
I chose the frames I liked and my mom and I left for about an hour and walked around the market. Some nicer places serve you free coffee and tea while you wait too! When we came back, the guy working there had my two pairs of glasses ready! They came with a case and a little cloth to clean the lenses with.

There are glasses everywhere
Overall, don’t be intimidated to shop around! There are TONS of eyeglass shops around Seoul, and it’s almost the thrill of the search to try to find the best deals and cutest frames. Plus, they’re used to people popping in, asking the price, and shopping around more. Let me know in the comments below if you have a specific store that you love to go to in Seoul. I’m sure other readers would like to know! Happy shopping and travels!!

BIG Korean Beauty Haul Part 2 ♥ Holika Holika, Skinfood, Innisfree and MORE! 큰 한국 비우티 하울 팔트2

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Anyeong! Here's part two to my recent BIG Korean Beauty Haul! Like I mentioned in the previous post, I bought all of these things from BeautyNetKorea! Check out the Part 1 of the haul if you haven't already!

Like I did before, I always like to include pictures of the products because I think they're fun to look at :)

I bought the Innisfree Green Tea Mineral Mist because I like the idea of a little pick-me-up. This is great to prep your skin before skincare or makeup or to freshen up your makeup. SO many purposes!

I always need makeup remover to I picked up the Etude House Eye and Lip Makeup Remover. Not too expensive and I've heard good things.

This is another makeup remover I've heard good things about! It's the Innisfree Apple Juicy Lip and Eye Makeup Remover!

I picked this up on a whim because I love Skinfood's Red Orange line. It's the Red Orange Sun Pact

I plan on using this as my carry around powder in my purse because it's a fairly small compact. I've never tried anything from this brand, but the EGLIPS Blur Powder Pact sounded promising.

Secret Key's Argan Angel Moisture Steam Cream seemed really nice as well and I also wanted to just see what steam creams are! It's in Blugarian Rose I believe.

This definitely caught my eye. It's Holika Holika's Pro Beauty Bloody Tint Oil Tint in Vampire Kiss. I liked the concept that it's seperated (the oil and color) and that's it's supposed to give you that vampire look :)

I was obsessed when Etude House came out with their princess line, but couldn't pick up any at first :( I finally got my hands on one product though! it's the Princess Happy Ending Cinderella Fairy Glitter Eyeshadow. Look how gorgeous!

I've never tried anything from Benton, but wanted to try something with Bee Venom in it. From what I gather, Benton is famous for their bee products? I'm not really sure but either way I got this Snail Bee High Content Essence!

I finally used up my old eye cream so I bought Mizon's Multi Function Formula Snail Repair Eye Cream. Like Benton is famous for bee products, Mizon is famous for snail products. I have high hopes!

These are definitely famous in Korea! They're the Holika Holika Jewel Light Waterproof Eyeliners. I got a couple colors because I heard such good things and they're pretty cheap (around 4-5 dollars)!  I got them in the colors #16 Black Plum, #11 Light Brown Amber, #03 Lapis Rajulri, and #08 Pink Topaz.

I'm obsessed with glittery eyeliner and thought if the other Holika Holika eyeliners are such a hit, this liquid one must be pretty good too. It's the Jewel Light Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in #4.

This was a freebie they threw in! It's the Tony Moly Tony Tint Delight in No. 2

Finally, I picked up 10 of these The Face Shop Foot Peeling Masks. My mom loves them and they're super expensive on other websites. These were literally a third of the price my mom has paid for these in the past!

Well that's it! Stay tuned for reviews on these! I can't wait to try these out :) Let me know what you think of the haul and if you've tried any of these yourself! Love you all!!

BIG Korean Beauty Haul Part 1 ♥ Etude House, Tony Moly, and MORE! 큰 한국 비우티 하울 팔트1

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

So if you read my post about my New Year's Resolutions, you'd know that I ended up throwing or giving a lot of my makeup away because it was either too old or I just didn't use it enough to keep it. I just remember thinking while I was going through some of my stuff, "wow, I've had this for a couple years now!". It's really bad to keep makeup past it's expiration date or use old nasty makeup so I just did a big clean out and allowed myself to splurge a little to replace some of the stuff I threw away :) So here's a big haul I did from BeautyNetKorea, which I split in two parts because it was so massive!!! Part 2 is here when you're ready :) haha

Now if you're familiar with my blog, you know I love PICTURE heavy posts :) So if you enjoy reading hauls more than you do watching them (or you like BOTH!) here's my haul in blog form!

Let's breakdown my Big Korean Haul! :)

BeautyNetKorea was very generous with they're samples! I got a lot more than I actually pictured, but figured you got the point! haha. Most of the samples were from Tony Moly! I got a ton of the I'm Real Lemon and Seaweed Aqua Moisture Lotions, the Intense Care Dual Effect Sleeping Pack, and some eye/face packs! They also included deluxe samples from Banila Co and Secret Key.

How cute are these samples?! :)

I bought the Etude House Beauty Shot Face Blur because I was really interested in seeing how it worked. Well, spoiler alert, I LOVE it and have already done a First Impressions on it and a Review! This stuff literally makes your skin look photoshopped!

I'm such a sucker for this quirky packaging! Plus, I love sleeping packs, so I bought this Banana Sleeping Pack from Tony Moly. This was something I was also super curious about, so I have tried it and already reviewed it

I LOVE spot patches for acne so I got a box from Lioele. I've never tried the A.C. Control Spot Patches and they were the cheapest ones on the site so I'm going to give them a go! This box has 5 sheets in it!

I ended up throwing all my eyeliners away so I bought two of the Etude House Drawing Show Creamy Liner Gel Eyeliners in Black. One is for my mom!

I appreciate the fact that this eyeliner also comes with a convenient and compact brush!

I'm always on the lookout for new BB creams and this Holika Holika Sweet Cotton Pore Cover BB Cream is so cute! I haven't seen any reviews on it so I wanted to try it out myself!

This is a new product from The Saem and it's they're Eco Soul Kiss Button Lips Matte in the shade Bitter Chocolate. I don't have too many matte lip colors and I thought this would be nice.

My lips are forever chapped. I'm going to try Tony Moly's Prestige Snail Lip Treatment to see if it helps. I love snail products and thought this could cure my dry lips!

I've heard so many amazing things about Innisfree's No Sebum Mineral Powder so I wanted to try this version, which is their Pink-Beam Mineral Powder. It looked really pretty on the website!

Well that's it for Part 1 of my Haul! And I just posted the second part!  :) Feel free to ask questions or request reviews on these products! Hope everyone is doing well!
